Unknown Frog Call ID

We received a forum post linking to an "Unknown Frog Call". We've decided to put this out for everyone to listen to and comment on.

So far we have ruled it out being a native frog call. Most people believe it is a bird call.

Come by and listen and give us your thoughts on this. I am opening a new forum topic for your opinions.

April 28 2010

The Center for North American Herpetology (CNAH) has decided to muck around with scientific names again so it's going to take me a bit to make the changes. All your field guide names will be wrong--again...and it also causes changes in the PA laws.

Northern Cricket Frog News

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is proposing rule changes that would elevate the status of the Northern cricket frog from rare to endangered. The Northern cricket frog, which has been found in Luzerne County, was extirpated from 92 percent of its historical range in the state. There are six remaining locations that have become severely fragmented, adding to the risk of the species’ survival. Two of the remaining sites are located in heavily disturbed landscapes with uncertain futures. In addition, the agency is also considering elevating the Northern redbelly dace and the blue-spotted salamander as endangered. The agency is currently accepting public comment on the proposals. To comment, go to www.fish.state.pa.us/rulemakings/215nprp.pdf to read the legislation, then visit www.fish.state.pa.us/promo/form/regulation_comments.htm to log in a comment. When submitting a comment, be sure to include PFBC Proposed Rulemaking #215 in the field. Comments must be submitted by Feb. 16.

*Note-the Blue-Spotted Salamander is not listed on my site as a native species but has apparently strayed in PA.
